This topic is for you who use a controller box with a ethernet cross-over cable for a connection (ie. Perceptron v4 or v5).

Do any of you guys have it setup to connect to the controller and your network at the same time?  If so, how do you guys have it setup?

I was able to connect the controler to the computer using a second network connection with a USB-> Network Adapter, but the connection did not provide fast enough data transfer when the scanner was at scanning at 100%. I would get an error mid scan (after 2-3 seconds) and the scan would stop by itself.

Well I think I solved my own problem.  I connected both the controller and computer directly to the network switch via regular ethernet cables and it works like a dream.  I have not tested if I can work on a workspace that is on a network drive yet, but I know it works in Scanworks so far.

Hello GoBeavs,
I don't know your setup nor Perceptron but here are a few comments:
1) USB 3.0 specification is completed by now. New devices shall hit the marker soon and work 10x faster (max theoritical speed with USB 2.0 was 480 Mbit/s). For information, you can visit http://www.usb.org
2) With setup #2, verify that you do not slow down other users while scanning (and vice-versa) and experience disconnection problems. A basic test would be to use another computer on your the network and copy some files from it computer to the network while you're scanning. Repeat in the opposite direction (from network to the computer). If you execute this test more than once (to average the results for instance), it could be a good idea to restart the computer each time (to remove any "File Cache" effects.).
3) Finally, 2 dedicted network cards within the same computer might be the best setup.

Hope this helps.
Best Regards
Daniel
