PTX Import from Leica Cyclone

Hi Everyone I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.

When importing Registered (Aligned) point cloud data in .ptx format from Cyclone PolyWorks ImAlign seem to loop this process.

ImAlign imports every thing in a continuous loop

It seems that a .ptx file is basically images (smaller chunks of data) from the scan locations - and PolyWorks will split these as it imports the total file.

NOVAMECH, also uses Edgewise Plant - within this package it has a very useful small app - called split .PTX - you basically tell this which .ptx file you want split and click go. The app then reads the .ptx making as many individual smaller .ptx files.

For the past 2 years I have been unable to figure out why PolyWorks Loops this data import process. And to be honest it really got to me as I did not know what I was doing wrong. Or if I was doing something wrong.
My question is - has anyone found this and how have you over come this?

I think I am the only one in NZ using this package - any others out there that are here in New Zealand?. If so give me a call some time - 021 732 052

I have imported PTX in the past from a Surphaser scanner and it worked well and did not loop.  However, I did not have a 3GB PTX file.  I might be able to dig up a PTX file for you to import and test.  If you would like for me to test importing a file of yours let me know - it could be a computer performance thing.

Interesting to note that when you cut out a area to export to .ptx from Cyclone - cyclone gives you the number of items exported - so you should only get this number on import into ImAlign. That's the only other work around I have at the moment. Note this on export from Cyclone and only import this number of images (scan positions) into ImAlign. Then cancel.

The other way was to use a .ptx splitting utility within ClearEdge 3D.  Which allows you to import all the split .ptx files at once.

The larger files seem to loop - note: image below - export from cyclone - 7 items exported i.e. 7 scan positions or portions of scan - as when you clip these out to a new scan world you only get parts of each scan - you only get what you select . See Tree as I imported 14 scan positions.
