Hi all,
My company wants to buy a scanner 3D, to scan buildings... Can someone tell me about Faro and Leica scanners (advantage / disadvantage)
Thanks

The advantages and disadvantages depend a lot on exactly what you plan on doing.

Obviously the biggest limitation of phase based scanners like the FARO are their short range so if you plan on working on very large relatively open structures that could be an issue. For smaller, more complicated, structures phase-based scanners are generally better because you can do a lot more scans in the time it would take to do a scan with a time-of-flight scanner like the C10. Leica's P20 should be almost as fast as a FARO but still have the range of a C10.

Certainly FARO's price makes it awfully attractive. The only thing Leica has to offer the is even close to the same price is the C5 which has worse performance, although it does offer an upgrade path to a C10 later.

The workflows are also quite different. Leica's software is certainly more complete, although frankly, I find the way many things are setup rather old fashioned and occasionally a bit bazaar. You're posting here so I'm guessing you're a PolyWorks user. Personally, I prefer the way I can integrate data from our FARO scanner into PolyWorks. Basically, we do initial registrations in the FARO software then load the scans into IMAlign to finalize the alignment before moving into other modules. When I work with Leica data I do all of the registration in their software and only export it at the end.

Best,

Thanks for the answer.
I'm Polyworks user, with a LTD706, and a T-scan.
