IMAlign / Re: PTX Import from Leica Cyclone
July 19, 2013, 06:26:39 PM
Some nice plaster formwork from an old theatre damaged in the Christchurch, NZ - earthquakes

Interesting to note that when you cut out a area to export to .ptx from Cyclone - cyclone gives you the number of items exported - so you should only get this number on import into ImAlign. That's the only other work around I have at the moment. Note this on export from Cyclone and only import this number of images (scan positions) into ImAlign. Then cancel.

The other way was to use a .ptx splitting utility within ClearEdge 3D.  Which allows you to import all the split .ptx files at once.

The larger files seem to loop - note: image below - export from cyclone - 7 items exported i.e. 7 scan positions or portions of scan - as when you clip these out to a new scan world you only get parts of each scan - you only get what you select . See Tree as I imported 14 scan positions.

IMAlign / PTX Import from Leica Cyclone
June 03, 2013, 07:12:08 PM
Hi Everyone I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.

When importing Registered (Aligned) point cloud data in .ptx format from Cyclone PolyWorks ImAlign seem to loop this process.

ImAlign imports every thing in a continuous loop

It seems that a .ptx file is basically images (smaller chunks of data) from the scan locations - and PolyWorks will split these as it imports the total file.

NOVAMECH, also uses Edgewise Plant - within this package it has a very useful small app - called split .PTX - you basically tell this which .ptx file you want split and click go. The app then reads the .ptx making as many individual smaller .ptx files.

For the past 2 years I have been unable to figure out why PolyWorks Loops this data import process. And to be honest it really got to me as I did not know what I was doing wrong. Or if I was doing something wrong.
My question is - has anyone found this and how have you over come this?

I think I am the only one in NZ using this package - any others out there that are here in New Zealand?. If so give me a call some time - 021 732 052

Yes - I believe this is possible, Could be very useful for all kinds of projects.

I was told this could be done during the initial training. But was not shown as there were more basic things to learn

I have found the answer  :)

In ImEdit - Tool Bars - Polygons - Repair - Invert Triangle Orientation

You need to select all triangles before applying this operation

Looks like - a lot of other useful stuff under

IMAlign / ImAlign - DATA
May 24, 2012, 02:09:54 AM
Hi There, I have a question for PolyWORKS experts/junkies

I have been using for about 1 year now - I have had major headaches trying to get good results when importing long-range scanner data. We have a HDS6100.

Also when importing .ptx or pts files from cyclone

Really two questions

1. Can any one give advice on a thought process that may be employed when deducing the setting to use on import. For example. If I have some data from a plant room ? pipes, vessels ? steel section that were say 2m to 12m away from the scanner. On the other hand, if I had data that was say from a roadway from 5m to 150m.

Once I have the data together it always, look very sparse and bridged ? is this an issue?

It looks rubbish ? but is this an issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

2. Secondly -   Once I register / align the point clouds and then open in ImEdit or ImInspect ? are all the point present i.e. if I imported at 1/1 in ImAlign does the data get lost - from this bridging / rubbish looking result

Thank You - I will give it a go later today , Nick

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me how to invert the sides of a Polygon Model? - i.e. change blue to gray on the image below
