Title: New V11 - What do you think?
Post by: matcappel on March 18, 2009, 04:41:22 AM
Has anyone seen the new V11 yet?  We have it here at our office, there are some really neat features like the interactive NURBing.  The overall NURBing still seems to take a bit of time yet but we haven't done many projects completely through.  I am wondering what other people think about the new version and some of the new features that have been added?  Is anyone using it yet?

I took the Modeling Class at the West Coast User Meeting with V11 and I was very impressed with the new NURBing.  I was a noobie to the modeling section and everything was very intuitive after a simple walkthrough.  When I came home and tried it on the V10, I had a much harder time; thus, I am very excited to find some projects that require a modeling session in V11.

Also, I like the alignment history under each data object in the tree in IMInspect.

I think the new statistic tool is very nice. Especially in combination with the new EZ-Layout functions a lot of things normally done in Excel can now be done faster and easy in PolyWorks. I tried a macro analysing 65 pieces in a row, and it worked just fine.

I have only used IMInspect in V11, but so far I am very impressed.  I use a Faro Laser Tracker in combination with a Faro Platinum arm quite frequently, so the introduction of the move device function has worked quite well so far (once getting over the learning curve).  It is much more intuitive now instead of fighting through n-centerpoint pairs and leapfrogs.  I also like how things can be much more customized inside of IMInspect instead of being stuck with the sometimes annoying default settings we were stuck with in version 10.  So far so good!  I agree about the alignment history in the tree view as well, nice option and much easier to trace back and uncover an issue than trying to look at alignment matrices.

I have been trying v11 for the past week or so and I definitely think it is much cleaner and slightly easier to use.  I have always been impressed with the stability of Polyworks and the overall quality of the product.  The only thing I have always wished for was the ability to set the default rendering style for cad models to curve for dynamic and flat + curve for static in IMInspect since is shows a better representation of the part than wireframe.

I like the V11 layout. Generally easier to navigate, once you get used to it. We've been having issues with units now that they are introduced in Align, Merge and workspace manager, but hopefully the first patch will fix that.

If you change your rendering style the way you like, then save your Config, does that work?

I believe the reason you can't save your default reference rendering style has to do with polygonal models.  I can import an STL as a reference object, but it has no curve information.  I'm sure it would be possible for Innovmetric to put a little intelligence in there to correct this small oversight.

In the meantime, I just use a very simple macro script to set all my IGES, STEP, UG etc. files to show their curves once imported.

Nope.  Tried that.  And flat + curve and curve are not listed in the options dialog.

Hello! Version 11 is a nice upgrade!  I really like the new caliper functionality and look foward to using the new IMedit surfacing tools.
I do have a small problem or question though. If this is the wrong area or beyond the scope of these forums, please forgive my lack of tact.
I am having problems with my 3dconnexion trackball with version 11.0.1  -- It is getting the signals from the trackball buttons, but polyworks 11.0.1 is
not responding to the ball rotations. Previous versions of polyworks worked fine (10.1.15+) Thanks in advance for any help you can provide in this!
I'm sure its a small problem that can be easy to fix, But I can seem to fix it on my own.

Thanks again guys! Great Product!  ;D

My SpaceNavigator for Notebooks didn't work correctly with v11.0.0 but works great with v11.0.1 so it seems that Innovmetric changed something.  Maybe the support for the newer products cripples older 3DConnexion devices.

Hey, ctcanthony. Does your issue with 3dconnexion trackball was solved? Innovmetric request me to update the driver of the device, but it doesn?t work. For a While, the customer has his trackball stoped.  :'(

Hello,

In this cycle of development (V11), InnovMetric is releasing lots of new tools in each patch. Lots of new probing tools have been added in V11 patches and there is still more things to come in November.

It's almost a new release (for probing users, at least) at every patch.

So keep your installation current, and read the readme.txt file...
