Title: Scanning shiny objects
Post by: pwuser909 on December 18, 2012, 05:13:36 PM
I'm wondering what people are doing when the object they scan is shiny, particularly shiny black.

I have been using Rocol Flawfinder Developer spray, which comes in a spray can, and always wipes off easily.

Until yesterday that was, when it destroyed the paint on the parts I was scanning.

I use a FARO Fusion with a V2 Laser Line Probe.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've always used Magnaflux developer spray, and never had any issues. The v2 FARO LLP should be able to scan a painted black surface. They only things I've been unable to scan with a FARO LLP were glass and VERY shiny machine surfaces. You may just have to adjust your exposure settings on your scanner.

You have to do two things:

1. Control the exposure of the laser...  I use ROMER with the auto exposure option (RDS 4.0)
2. If extra help is needed, the shipest and easy to use media is the baby powder.. yes it works
