Title: (TIP) Scanning problems linked to anti-virus software, power settings on laptop

Scanning in IMAlign or IMInspect with an arm-based line scanner... with McAfee Virus Software active, there was a 20 second lag after each scan pass.  By temporarily disabling the virus software, the lag went away.  McAfee has a function where it constantly monitors any new files.  Also, on laptops, when the Windows Power Option is set to Max Battery, one of the processor cores is shut down.  If you are having a lag during the transfering of data points, set the Power Options to Max Performance, and the lag should be fixed.

I will have to try this. I have been trying to troubleshoot the lag myself.  I also have two other potential causes.  I used a USB->Network Adapter to connect the cross-over cable from the Perceptron Controller to the computer so we can still have network access with our main network connection.  The second is that we setup our workspaces on the network, so all of the scans are being saved and transfered to the network each time. I am not exactly sure where the bottle neck is, but I am going to run some tests.  I was going to just save a project locally and see if I can notice the difference and also use the computers regular network adapter.  I will have to see if I have permissions to stop the anti-virus too.

Another tip about this subject is disable temporarily the Wireless Network Adapter. Sometimes the OS try to find new wireless connections and it do a lag on the system during the scanning too.

If your network administrator is reluctant to disable the anti-virus, try to exclude the newly created files from the anti-virus scan process using files / directories exclusion (*.pwk; *.psl, c:\MyData, etc.). Most anti-virus software support something like this.

Augusto is right. If you experiment problems, you should try to:
1) Try to disable the Bluetooth/IrDA/MISC/Zigbee/Wi-Fi stuff completely.
2) If #1 cannot be done, try to disable incoming requests from other devices (direct connexion or discovery requests). Otherwise, your computer will sniff periodically to detect a master device. As an added benefit, you will save power on a laptop.
3) If #1 cannot be done, try to disable outgoing requests to other devices (automatic discovery for instance). As an added benefit, you will save power on a laptop.
4) Always consider to replace a wireless mouse or keyboard...
